Solar Hot Water Solutions

Worcester Greenskies solar panels harness the power in both direct and diffused sunlight, converting the energy into heat, to produce hot water for the home.

The solar panels have been designed to complement existing heating systems which use a store of hot water in a cylinder and they are a perfect partner to Worcester's Greenstar regular and system boilers.

A typical well-sized solar panel system should provide around 50-70% of the domestic hot water requirements of a home.

Greenskies solar panels have been designed to complement existing heating systems which use a store of hot water in a cylinder. The existing cylinder is exchanged for one with two heat exchanger coils: one from the boiler in the property and a second from the solar panels.

*Percentage of absorbed solar energy reflected back into the atmosphere by the collectors.

  • Efficient panels with 95% absorption rate
  • Selective coating on panels - increases collector performance, even on cloudy days
  • Installation solutions for on-roof, roof integration, flat roof and wall mounted at 45°
  • Portrait and landscape panels
  • Simple to use controller
  • Solar safety glass
  • Robust panel design
  • Easy to fit
  • CE mark
  • Solar keymark (European quality mark)

How Does The Solar Panel Work?

Worcester Greenskies solar panels form part of a system which remains separate from the boiler heating system. The panels are mounted on a surface which is selected for its exposure to sunlight and usually connected, via pipe work, to the lower coil of a twin-coil solar cylinder.

Renewable Energy Sources in Yorkshire

The energy in the sun's rays are absorbed by the panel and the heat is transferred into the pipe work in the absorber plates. The pipework is filled with a ready-mixed liquid, containing glycol and water, which is circulated by a pump to the coil in the hot water cylinder. The heat is deposited in the storage cylinder and the glycol returns to the panel to absorb more free solar energy. The system is equipped with a simple unit to control the flow of energy from the panels to the storage cylinder.

On average, the solar panels can provide between 50 - 70% of the hot water required in the home over a year. The boiler is used to supplement the hot water demand when necessary.

Ground Source Heat Pumps

A ground source heat pump is an electrically powered system that uses the natural energy stored in the earth to heat your home. The principle is simple, and the result is low-cost comfortable heating that uses sustainable energy and causes no direct emissions or other damage to the environment. Worcester's Greenstore ground source heat pumps are suitable for a variety of different properties and are designed to be the sole source of heating and hot water in the home.

For every single kilowatt of electricity used to power the ground source heat pumps, this system could generate four kilowatts or more in energy for your home, whilst helping to conserve the earth's dwindling supplies of non-renewable fossil fuels - coal, gas, and oil.

FAQ's

  • What is sustainable energy?
  • How does a heat pump work?
  • How is the efficiency of a ground source heat pump measured?
  • What types of heat pump are available?
  • Will I also need a boiler with the Greenstore system?
  • Can I keep my existing radiators?
  • Is there any government funding available?
  • What size of cable should be used to connect the air to air heat pump to the mains electricity supply?

Air Source Heat Pumps

Worcester's range of air source heat pumps offers a choice of two systems: air to air or air to water, both offering significant savings compared with a conventional heating system. The air source heat pumps convert the free and sustainable latent energy in the air into heat, delivering green, low-cost, energy-saving heating and hot water all year round.

Air To Air Heat Pump

Worcester Greensource air source heat pumps are intended to be the sole source of heating and hot water production for the home, giving homeowners the option of removing the existing heat source from the property.

The Greensource air to water heat pumps use the constant energy available in the air with a refrigerant circuit to allow the temperature to be boosted to a useful level for the provision of heating or hot water for the home.

An air to air heat pump is an all-in-one heating and cooling system that is designed to provide year-round comfort.

The Greensource air to air heat pump converts the energy from the air outside into heat and then circulates warm air internally to provide a comfortable temperature inside the home.

Where space is limited, Greensource air to air heat pumps are an attractive alternative for providing energy efficient heating because the only space requirement is an external wall, making them ideal for apartments and smaller homes.

As an extra benefit, Greensource air to air heat pumps can also operate as an air cooler and purifier using Plasmacluster Ion-technology.

  • Energy efficient - COP* of up to 5
  • Compact design requiring only an outside wall
  • Suitable for a wide variety of property types, including apartments and conservatories
  • Quiet operation
  • Easy to install and maintain
  • Display with indoor/outdoor temperature
  • High efficiency in all temperature ranges
  • Can be used to provide cool air in the summer
  • Active Ion-technology air purification, ideal for allergy sufferers
  • Auto-defrost function
  • Proven technology that saves you money

*Coefficient of Performance, the basis of heat pump efficiency. For example, 3 units of environmental energy plus 1 unit of electricity equals 4 units of heating energy. This is subject to suitable low flow temperatures and house insulation levels. A stable and solid outside base is required.
