Repair or Replace?

Did you know that the domestic boilers nationally account for approximately a third of all CO2 emissions, this is something to consider when you think about the impact motor vehicles have.

All boilers have a life expectancy of 10 to 15 years and when they get to such an age they are increasingly inefficient, problematic and costly to repair.

In addition to a tired boiler the household can lose up to 40% in gas through poor heating controls, such as, not having thermostatic radiators, correctly programmed timers, thermostats correctly operating.

What can be done? Well the latest energy efficient boilers can take the boiler from efficiencies in the 50%’s to 90% plus. Even in some instances where the boiler is not the major culprit but the controls are then installing thermostatic valves to all radiators and incorporating these with a user friendly digital time clock and room stat that collectively can see savings of 40% in gas alone.

The cause of inefficient systems continues with the corrosion of pipe work and basically any part of a central heating system that the water has contact with. All central heating systems incorporate metal (ferrous) materials, and when these are in constant contact with water corrosion occurs. With all systems it is essential that the water is treated with an inhibitor, this ensures the water does not breakdown into the dreaded black sludge, sludge that makes systems work harder and therefore use more gas.

At Help Link we will provide impartial advice when asked to review any system and give you a best value opinion of your options. Call us now on 0800 91 54321 to arrange a free no obligation home visit.

LEGISLATION 2005
Please note that from April 2005 all new boilers must be Condensing, this ensures that emissions are at the highest possible from the appliance.
